The COVID-19 pandemic is a stranger to no one as it continues to plague people everywhere. In a time where everyone is concerned for the health and safety of themselves and loved ones, it’s even more important to lend a helping hand for those in need. At East Texas Food Bank, we’re constantly improving and implementing safe ways to donate to the hungry during the COVID-19 crisis.
Three ways to donate
Donate financially through online charities
Donate food and supplies to local food banks
Donate your time by volunteering at local food banks and charities
Donate Financially through Online Charities
If you are looking for an easy, safe, and quick way to donate during a pandemic, look no further than online money donations. As a result of the current pandemic, East Texas Food Bank has established endowment funds to help resolve the COVID-19 food crisis. Since one in five East Texans goes without food each day, your donation to the East Texas Food Bank goes to secure food for those without it. As little as $25 provides up to 200 meals! Anything makes a difference -- no matter how small.
Donate Food and Supplies to Local Food Banks
As millions run to stock up on everyday groceries, we at East Texas Food Bank realize the increase in hardships for the already food insecure during these trying times. More than ever, it is harder for those in need to get supplies to carry them throughout the day. By donating anything from canned goods to your overstocked toilet paper, you’re ensuring the health of those who need it most.
Donate Your Time by Volunteering to Distribute Food to Local Schools and Shelters
With self-quarantining being demanded by all, free time seems to be in overabundance these days. What better way is there to spend it than helping those in need? By volunteering at your local food bank, you can not only encourage the bank's selfless dedication but also directly help the victims of the COVID-19 crisis through their accommodations in their efforts. For example, to accommodate for the pandemic and “social distancing”, food banks everywhere have placed drive-thru food distributions at schools for students and families. In addition to drive-thru systems, many banks like East Texas Food Bank have a BackPack Program in place for students that suffer from malnutrition and hunger. Since schools have been closed from COVID-19, the program has moved to cold meals, which can be stored at home for children in need and their families.
